Relevant Information:

Similar looking to Ernstichthys megistius but this species was captured a long way from the type locality of E. megistius (the Marañon River in northern Peru) in the upper Madre de Dios River watershed in southeastern Peru. Remarks: Ernstichthys live among the cobble substrates of piedmont rivers gushing out of the Andes Mountains, from Venezuela to southern Peru. (Lujan, N)
