This catfish was in the
the genus Chrysichthys, which was split off from Bagridae
by Mo in 1991 along with all of the African Bagrids bar one, and
is now housed in the Claroteidae family. In the same paper
he reasigned Chrysichthys sianenna to the Bathybagrus genera.
In some publications it is still maintened in the genus Chrysichthys.
This is a very common species in Lake Tanganyika and is sold in
the local markets.
