Bought as "spotted catfish"

From searching the sites can confirm they are not S.ocellifer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi There,

There is the slight possibility that this is a one of the many types of hybrids that we have been receiving, in the last couple of years especially.

There is a slight resembelance to S.congiicus given that the humeral process is blunt just like this species. Another one is S.ornatissimus but it has bands in the tail where as yours has spots. If I was put on the spot I would go with S.nigrita. You can find all these species in the Mochokidae photo gallery here.
Allan.
