Not sure if this is the correct forum

I have just aquired a Flival 304 external filter for my 160ltr tanks and due to the high stock level I am going to run this filter as well as the existing ehiem ecco 2233.

the ecco 2233 has three layers of foam in it ranging from large to small.

So my question is what do you think i should fill my new 304 external with, again this filter has 3 baskets for media.

Any suggestions would be great

I have a Fluvul 304 and I use large media in the bottom basket, its a round plastic blue media with holes, can't remember the name buts its something similar to hair curlers. The middle one I have gravel with coral mixed to keep the p.H. up as our water is very soft and tends to take a dive down the scale. The top one I keep the sponge that is with the filter. All this seems to work out all right on my 6ft.tank. with a large internal filter as well.

I am running 2 Fluval 304's on my main tank (60gallon), and they are set up as follows
1st
the bottom compartment contains small ceramic tubes ( the ones that hagen recommends and supplies)
the middle compartment contains carbon/charcoal,
and the top compartment contains two grades of sponge pads
2nd
the bottom compartment contains rough aggregate,(it's the stuff sometimes sold in garden centres for pond filtration systems, but; I have been told its the stuff that the water boards use in their sewage treatment tanks).
the middle compartment contains nylon pan scrubbers
and the top contains a sponge pad.

I have bio-balls, filter wool and marble in mine.

When i had a perruno and a couple of oscars i stuck hair rollers in it as a coarse material. Seemed to do a great job.
