In Topic: Ich Treatment with Corys

Thanks Allan and Kcat... Initially, I added 1 tbs of salt (It's a 10 gallon), but about 2 hours later I did a 60% water change and changed the carbon filter... I have to confess. I was negligent about keeping clean water in that tank.. It was just amazing what the small steps I took caused... The Ich I saw disappeared. I'm going to continue with cleaning up and maintaining the environment as well as using temperature (85-86 degrees F) for a while. I feel bad about not having maintained my fish's environment, but will do better...
No fish lost to this point..
Thanks for the help..
Alan

Are Corys particularly susceptible to Ammonia poisoning? More so than other species?

Hi Alan,

I don't think that Cory's suffer from swim bladder disease, I would hazard a guess that Ammonia poisoning is the culprit here.
Large water changes of between 25-50% should be made every couple of days and also lowering the p. H. if it is over 7 as the higher the p.H. values are, the higher the Ammonia levels increase.
