Description:
Can be identified by its long nose and grey colouration.
Aquarium Care: Too large a species
for the home aquarium. Etymology:
The genus name Rhinobagrus: rhinós,
genitive of rhís, snout, referring to extended
snout of R. dumerili; Bagrus, type genus
of Bagridae. The specific name of dumerili:
in honour of Bleeker’s friend August Duméril
(1812-1870), herpetologist and ichthyologist, Muséum
national d’Histoire naturelle (Paris), who kindly
allowed Bleeker to describe it. Remarks:
Moved from the Leiocassis genera to Tachysurus
but has been misadentified as Tachysurus longirostris.
Still found on some online searches as Tachysurus
dumerili.
