Abstract: A new species of Corydoras is described from the Rio Tefé basin, a tributary of the Rio Solimões, Amazonas State, Brazil. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by having the following features: a conspicuous dark brown or black patch transversally crossing the orbit, forming a mask-like blotch; a large, transversally elongated dark brown or black patch extending from the anterior portion of the dorsal-fin base toward the ventral margin of the trunk, and absence of a distinct colour pattern along midline of flank. Considering that the new species exhibits a colour pattern similar to that of Corydoras pastazensis, the identity of this species was also analyzed herein. The examination of most type specimens, including holotypes, allowed the clear delimitation of C. pastazensis, as well as the confirmation of the previously proposed synonymy with C. pastazensis orcesi. Additionally, the analysis of the morphology of mouth and barbels within Corydoradinae indicated a new hypothesis of homology of the barbels, as well as the proposition of five new characters related to these structures. Lineage: Placed in Lineage 1 the "saddle-nosed" species with the type species of C. geoffroy La Cépède, 1803. Aquarium Care: As this is one of the longer snouted species it will be well suited to most community tanks. A well planted tank with a soft substrate such as sand so they can bury their snouts while searching out food. Diet: Readily accepts a mixed and varied diet which includes granular foods, tablet food, frozen bloodworm and a good quality flake. Etymology: The specific name “isaacisbrueckeri” is named in honour of Dr. Isaäc Jan Hendrik Isbrücker, beloved friend and renowned Loricarioidea expert. Isaäc devoted most of his life to the aquarium hobby and ichthyology, publishing dozens of scientific articles on Corydoradinae and Loricariidae along his career. This small homage intends to highlight how special Isaäc is as a human being, as well as a devoted scientist, inspiring LFCT on personal and professional levels. A noun in apposition. Remarks: This species has a similar colour pattern to that of C. pastazensis and CW128, but is from a different location (corydorasworld.com).
