Information:
Very similar to Osteogaster
rabautiand
are sometimes difficult to tell apart. O. zygatus
is a slimmer fish, not so colourful and grows larger.
The fry of each of these two has proven that they
are two separate Osteogaster species. (Fuller,
1980). Lineage: Placed in Lineage
7 alongside other members of the so called "aeneus
group" with the designated type species: C.
eques. A revision in the future would constitute
the resurrection of the genus name Osteogaster
(Cope, 1871). As
of the latest update Corydoras zygatus has
now been placed in Lineage 7 and has the new genus
name of Osteogaster (2024).Aquarium
Care: This is akin to most of this genus,
very peaceful, and would be best housed with small
to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras and
Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras/Osteogaster
in good health. Etymology: The specific
name zygatus: From the Greek zygados
= 'team' or 'pair', possibly alluding to the close
resemblance to Osteogaster rabauti.Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoraszygatus.
