Habitat: Trachydoras
brevis occurs in rivers draining the lowlands
of the Amazon basin, including the Negro and Madeira
in Brazil, Peru and Colombia. The species also occurs
in the Essequibo River basin in Guyana (GBIF 2019,
SpLink 2020). Aquarium Care: Peaceful
species for a mid sized community tank, planted with
hiding places such as pipes or driftwood/bogwood.
Diet: Tablet and pellet foods, frozen
bloodworm and live foods should keep this catfish
in good condition. Etymology: The
specific name brevis: Latin for short, referring
to its short (length) but high (height) body.
