Brachyglanis, Leptorhamdia and Myoglanis along with Gladioglanis and the members of the Nemuroglanis subclade (Ferraris 1988) were assigned by Lundberg et al. (1991) to a large unnamed monophyletic group characterised by the loss of a free orbital rim around the eye. For further information read the referenced paper by DoNascimiento, C. and J.G.
