Habitat:
Currently, Paralithoxus comprises and species
with a cratonic distribution restricted to the bases
of the Guyana Shield (Silva et al., 2017). Ferreira
(1993 ) presented the first record of Lithoxus
lithoides and Paralithoxus
bovalli for
the River Trumpets, in Northern Brazil. As the Ireng
River (called Maú River in Roraima), type locality
of P . bovallii, is a tributary of the Takutu
River in Brazil - Guyana border, the presence of Paralithoxus
representatives in other Brazilian drainages was already
expected. Aquarium Care: Quite a
demanding genera which need pure, oxygen rich water.
They need plenty of hiding places and the aquarium
to be very strongly filtered. Diet:
Insectivores that feed in their natural habitat from
insect larvae on rocks. Feed Frozen mosquito larvae,
brine shrimp and Daphnia. They will also
except tablet foods. Etymology: The
specific name boujardi: In honour of Thierry
Boujard (b. 1959), Laboratoire d’Hydrobiologie
de Guyane (INRA), who at the time had been studying
the fishes of Guyana for six years [authorial note:
Muller later seen as S. Fisch-Muller]. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Lithoxus

IUCN
Red List
Paralithoxus
boujardi is endemic to French Guiana with an extent
of occurrence (EOO) of 21,165 km2. Several small streams
within the distribution of the species show considerable
impact from gold mining, and there are six locations
based on this threat, which is also inferred to be causing
a continuing decline in habitat. Given the EOO is just
over the Vulnerable threshold, this species is assessed
as Near Threatened.
It should be monitored. It is possible that the full
extent of the distribution of the species has not yet
been examined, and future studies should explore the
distribution of the species (IUCN 2023)
