As the specific name implies this species has a long nose and it typifies this Synodontis. The mouth is also down turned. Aquarium Care: A large tank would be needed as this is quite a large species, although its temperament is quite good. Diet: Will take the usual aquarium fare. Etymology: The specific name longirostris: longus (L.), long; rostris, Neo-Latin scientific adjective of rostrum (L.), snout, referring to its obtusely pointed snout, twice as long as postocular part of head.

The species is widespread or without major threats throughout the Central Africa assessment region and is assessed as Least Concern, but does need updating (IUCN 2010).
