Description:
37 vertebrae (vs. 35-40), and the first dorsal-and
anal-fin pterygiophores placed anteriorly to the 18th
neural spine and 22nd hemal spine of the vertebral
column, respectively (vs. anteriorly to the 16th-21st
and 20-25th, respectively) (Katz,
A.M. & Costa,W.J.E.M., 2020).
Habitat: (Peri) Cambeva
guaraquessaba occurs exclusively in the tributaries
to the Paranaguá Bay. Inhabits river with clear
water, falls, rapids and moderate current flowing
over the rocky beds, intercalated with pools. Occurs
in association with stones and plant debris on the
bottom. Colouration: Distinguished
from its congeners by the colour pattern with a mid-lateral
line composed of black spots with about the eye size
(vs. body with blotches or spots not forming a mid-lateral
stripe). Diet: Will feed on most
aquarium fare such as tablet, frozen and live foods.
Etymology: The genus name Pericambeva:
perí, near or around, referring to its geographical
proximity with Cambeva. Named after Munucipio
de Guaraqueçaba and the Area de Proteçao
Ambiental de Guaraqueçaba, the area of occurrence
of this species. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Trichomycterusguaraquessaba and Cambeva guaraquessaba
(synonyms).
