Relevant Information:

There are at present (2023) 12 described species in this poorly known genera. Habitat: Found mainly in the upper reaches of rivers and diverticules of rapids where the current is very strong, the water is clear and shallow and the bottom consists of numerous rocky blocks under which it finds shelter. In this biotope where it can be very abundant, other species like Leporinus granti, L. despaxi, Astyanax meunieri, Bryconops caudomaculatus, Imparfinis minutus, Pimelodella cristata and Crenicichla multispinosa are also found. Etymology: Named after its type locality of Tapanahoni in the Marowijne River basin.

South America: Maroni/Marowijne and Sinnamary River basins (French Guiana and Suriname). Type locality: Tapanahoni, about two kilometres downstream of its confluence with the Paloemeu [Marowijne River basin, Suriname].
