Relevant Information:

It is the only recognised member of its genus. Habitat: Inhabits sand and gravel bottoms of creeks of relatively fast flowing water as well as sluggish waters of the same streams where aquatic vegetation is lacking. Diet: Feeds mainly on Trichoptera larvae. Etymology: The specific name armillatus: Latin for adorned with a collar, referring to a “broad yellow collar [that] extends from the under surface on each side across the bases of the pectoral fins and the vertex”.

IUCN Red List

Despite the little information available on this species, it has a wide range and no apparent threats. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern, (IUCN 2023).
