Relevant Information:

This species is placed in the genus Phenacorhamdia in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011) following DoNascimiento & Milani (2008), who based the change in genus on the unpublished work of Bockmann (1998). Habitat: Known only from a few specimens caught from some fast creeks with rocky bottom. The image contributor (M.H.S.) found this specimen hidden in the crevice of a submerged log. Etymology: The specific name tenuis: Slender or thin. Remarks: Still found on some online sources by its synonym, Heptapterus tenuis.

Phenacorhamdia tenuis is distributed in several streams of Guiana Shield tributaries in French Guiana. It probably also occurs in northern Brazil and Suriname. There are a sparse number of collected materials. Threats related to gold mining occur in parts of its distribution. However, this species is widespread and parts of its population are found in protected areas. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern (LC), (IUCN 2022).
