Description: Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 11 - 13. This species has been separated from S. schall of which it defers mainly by the width of the pemaxillary toothplate and can be distinguished one from the other by differences in orbit diameter. Etymology: The specific name ouemeensis: –ensis, Latin suffix denoting place: Oueme River, Benin, type locality.

IUCN Red List

The species is endemic to western Africa and known from the Ogun (Nigeria), Ouémé (Bénin) and Mono (Togo) basins. Based on the fairly wide distribution area of this species with no known major threats, it is classified as Least Concern (IUCN 2020).
