This attractive small species is as yet (2010) not been exported to the hobby. Colouration: Consists of a greyish body with a white caudal with a grey stripe to each lobe. The dorsal is dark anteriorly with white posteriorly. Etymology: The specific name voltae: From the Volta River in Africa. Remarks: Synodontis voltae is only known from the type locality.

IUCN Red List

Synodontis voltae is only known from the type locality in the Bougouriba River (Upper Volta River basin) in Burkina Faso. It is not possible to adequately assess the risk of extinction of this species because there is not enough information available on its distribution and/or population status, nor on plausible threats. This mochokid catfish is therefore listed as Data Deficient (IUCN 2020).
