Relevant Information:

Description: Glyptothorax is distinguished from all other sisorid genera by having an adhesive apparatus on the thorax with with grooves parallel or oblique to the longitudinal axis of the body (vs. thoracic adhesive grooves transverse to the longitudinal axis of the body in Pseudecheneis, and thoracic adhesive apparatus absent in all other genera). Glyptothorax silviae is generally distinct in having long, or approximately as wide as long, thoracic adhesive apparatus (vs. short in G. kurdistanicus); head and flank without tubercles (vs. present in G. armeniacus and G. cous) and warts (vs. present in G. daemon). Medial pit of thoracic adhesive apparatus without striae (vs. present in G. steindachneri). Colouration: Upper head, back and flank with few or many dark-brown spots and/or blotches (vs. in G. pallens) (Sayyadzadeh et al 2022). Aquarium Care: Glyptothorax are susceptible to degraded water quality since they come from pristine water conditions and can not cope with even the slightest changes. The same water conditions should be maintained in the home aquaria while keeping them clean, cool with high dissolved oxygen waters. A hillstream setup with sand, pebbles and rocks is ideal for them with lots of hiding spaces (Mishra, A.). Diet: They feed on insect larvae, smaller invertebrates and crustaceans in nature. In home acquaria they should be fed with live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimps, tubifex, though after acclimating to tank environments they are also known to take sinking pellets (Mishra, A.).
