Relevant Information:

Habitat: Inhabit rivers in upland areas. Reproduction: Oviparous, eggs are unguarded. Monsoon is the breeding time for a lot of fish species in India and the south east asia region in general. With the onset of monsoon, fishes prepare themselves for spawning and elevated water levels with dissolved silt induces breeding hormones in the fish. Ailiid catfishes like Clupisoma and other genera breed once a year during the monsoon months. Fishes have evolved to sync their breeding cycles with the onset of monsoon because higher levels of water also trigger's breeding activity of invertebrates which become a great food source for the young fry (Mishra, Abhisek 2024). Aquarium Care: Handling Ailiid Catfishes is no joke as they are extremely sensitive when taken out of water and must be provided certain parameters and environment to keep them alive. After multiple failed attempts I managed to procure live specimens of all the 4 genera present in my locality and kept them in my home aquaria (Mishra, Abhisek 2023). Diet: Feeds on insects, shrimps, other crustaceans and small fish. As per captive feeding, being predatory in nature they will need meaty foods such as shrimps, earthworms, mealworms etc. Etymology: The genus name Clupisoma: clupea, herring; soma, body, referring to the herring-shaped body. The specific name bastari: Of Bastar District, Madhya Pradesh, India, the type locality. Remarks: Formerly in the Schilbeidae family.
