Austroglanididae
catfishes, are characterised by their scaleless,
elongated bodies. From Southern Africa they
have three pairs of barbels (nasal pair absent);
strong dorsal and pectoral spines; adipose fin
small. The genus Austroglanis was formerly
placed in the Bagridae family. There are three
species only in this genera and all are either
vulnerable or endangered due to their habitats
being threatened by stream channeling, water
extraction, sedimentation and introduced bass.
