This species is very rare
in the hobby. Lineage:
Placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 which comprises the
"intermediate long-snouts" with deeper bodies.
It also includes Brochis in sub-clade 1 which
was synonymised with Corydoras by Britto
in 2003 but in time there will be a revision which
will resurrect Brochis (Cope, 1871) to full
genera again. As
of the latest update (Dias et al. 2024)
Corydoras bifasciatus has now been placed
in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 and has the new genus name
of Brochis and a change to the specific name
to bifasciata. Aquarium
Care: This is akin to most of this genus,
very peaceful, and would be best housed with small
to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras and
Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras in
good health. Etymology: The specific
name bifasciata: From the Latin bi
= two or double and fasciata
= striped, alluding to the 2 stripes on
the body. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoras
bifasciatus.

Red List
Brochis
bifasciata is endemic to Brazil and known only from
the type series, from a left-bank tributary of the Cururu
River, Tapajós River basin, Pará state.
No additional material of this species is known in scientific
collections, although there are photographic records
on ornamental fish sites that likely refer to Corydoras
(Brochis) bifasciatus (bifasciata).
The type locality of the species is within the boundaries
of the Munduruku Indigenous Territory. Based on the
aforementioned information and the absence of significant
threats that endanger its population, Brochis bifasciata
(then Corydoras bifasciatus) has been categorised
as Least Concern (LC), (IUCN 2022).
