Similar to Brochis
pulchra and
Hoplisoma
sp.(CW028) (which has a
shorter snout and therefore a different lineage) and
is not imported very often. Known for the two very
bold lines on the mid-body. Lineage:
Placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 which comprises the
"intermediate long-snouts" with deeper bodies.
It also includes Brochis in sub-clade 1 which
was synonymised with Corydoras by Britto
in 2003 but in time there will be a revision which
will resurrect Brochis (Cope, 1871) to full
genera again. As
of the latest revision (Dias
et al 2024) Corydoras ornatus
has now been placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 and has
the new genus name of Brochis
and a change to the specific name to ornate.
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most of this
genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed with
small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras/Brochis
in good health. Etymology: The specific
name of ornata: Meaning ornate; decorated.
Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoras
ornatus
or Brochis ornatus.

IUCN
Red List
Corydoras
(Brochis) ornata/us is endemic
to Brazil and is recorded in the lower Tapajós
River basin, and the Madeira and Japurá Rivers.
There is ornamental interest in the species; however,
this potential threat cannot be measured. Furthermore,
the construction of hydroelectric power plants is planned
for the region. Corydoras (Brochis)
ornata/us appears to be naturally infrequent and
not very abundant; however, due to its wide distribution,
no evidence has been found that the direct threats posed
by collection pressure for ornamental purposes and the
construction of hydroelectric plants endanger its population.
Therefore, B. ornata was categorised as Least
Concern (LC), (IUCN 2022).
