Newly described by Tencatt,
L. F. C. et al 2025, and was given the CW number of
68 before description. Similar looking to O.
zygata from Peru in
body colour, but is a much larger fish. Habitat:
Currently, the new species is known from its type-locality,
the Rio Aripuanã basin, with an additional
record in the Rio Juruena basin, both Mato Grosso
State, Brazil (Tencatt, L. F. C. et al 2025). Lineage:
Placed in Lineage 7 alongside other members of the
so called "aenea/us group" with the designated
type species: C. eques. A revision in the
future would constitute the resurrection of the genus
name Osteogaster (Cope, 1871).
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most of this
genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed with
small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras/Osteogaster
in good health. Etymology: The specific
name oharai: named in honour of Dr. Willian
Massaharu Ohara, dear friend and distinctive ichthyologist,
not only for his extensive contributions to knowledge
of South American freshwater fishes, but for having
played a fundamental role in the professional history
of LFCT, having generously donated dozens of species
of Corydoradinae collected by him over the last decade,
some of which were described in collaboration. A noun
in a genitive case. Remarks:
Still
found on some online sources as
Corydoras
sp. (CW068)or
Osteogaster sp. (CW068).
