It is a small Clariid
and as it is a cave dwelling species it has been added to the
IUCN Red List of vulnerable species (1996) due to the removal
of water from its habitat by pump. CHARDON (1968) made a study
of this species among others, and stated that it is a form between
the Families of Clariidae and Bagridae and as such should be in
its own family, Uegitglanididae. Inhabits small groundwater cavities
in Somalia. There may be more species waiting to be discovered
in the genus but for now it is monotypic.
