In the October 1999 edition of DATZ magazine, the L-number L274 was first assigned and has now been described by Oliveira, R. R. de., & Rapp Py-Daniel, L. H. in 2025. Description: The Baryancistrus genus are large and high backed. They have a large suckermouth with a high number of slender and long stemmed teeth. A small membrane lies behind the last ray of the dorsal fin which joins the anal fin. Habitat: Found in shallow fast flowing areas of water with a stony substrate. Colouration: Similar to preserved specimens, but with more contrast. Dark brown to black background on head, dorsum and flanks. Dots bright yellow in life. Ventral surface white to grey from tip of snout to anal fin insertion; light grey on ventral caudal peduncle; pale dots more conspicuous on abdominal plates and caudal peduncle. Ventral surface of simple pectoral and pelvic fin rays with light brown colouration. Teeth cusps translucent dark red to brown. Aquarium Care: Can be problematic, especially with inexperienced aquarists, not a beginners fish. As of most of this genera the adults can be extremely territorial, especially with their own kind and other species of Baryancistrus. Prefers higher temperatures. Sexual Differences: Mature males have a broader and longer head and longer pectoral fin spines. Diet: Aufwuchs grazer, vegetarian food, tablets, pellets, insect larvae, zooplankton, and soft wood. Etymology: The specific name isaaci: A noun (masculine, singular), honours Isaäc Isbrücker, for his contribution to the knowledge of Neotropical Ichthyology, especially loricariids. Isaäc is an excellent ichthyologist and aquarist, and an example of resilience against preconceived ideas, deserving to be honoured by his extreme talent and knowledge on loricariids. He has dedicated a relevant part of his career as ichthyologist sharing his knowledge with the academia and general aquarium experts. A noun in a genitive case.
