Description:
The Dekeyseria genera possess broad and flattened
heads. Both sexes have odontodes to the pectoral and
caudal spines with the males being somewhat longer.
Some authors (Seidel 2008) place the Dekeyseria
genus as Zonancistrus and state these species
as being in the Dekeyseria brachyura group.
Aquarium Care: Whatever their true
placing's they are relatively easy to keep in the
aquarium. If you keep them in soft acid water they
will sport their natural colours.
Diet: Omnivorous, veg, tablet and fine frozen
foods. Etymology: The genus name
Dekeyseria: –ia (L. suffix), belonging
to: French zoologist Pierre Louis Dekeyser (1914–1984),
Universidade Federal da Paraíba (João
Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil). The specific name
amazonica: From the Amazon river basin.–ica
(L.), belonging to: Amazonas, Brazil, type locality
and/or distribution in the central Amazon River basin
of Brazil.

Dekeyseria
amazonica is widely distributed in the main channel
of the Amazon River in Brazil and Colombian territory.
It is a frequent and abundant species, and no significant
threats have been identified that would put its population
at risk of extinction. For these reasons, D. amazonica
has been categorized as Least
Concern (LC), (IUCN 2022).
