Relevant Information:

Description: The Delturus genera are flat headed and are a medium sized species. Strongly developed ridge anterior to the adipose fin. Dorsal fin with 8-10 branched rays. The teeth are bicuspid with two almost identical shaped cusps. Habitat: Specimens that were recently collected were found in wide sectors of the river channels, with strong currents and a rocky bottom. Aquarium Care: No problems in the aquarium but they do need a current in the water. Provide plenty of hiding places for this species. Diet: Omnivore. Vegetable foods such as cucumber, spinach and other various foods such as tablet, flake and frozen. Will do better with a high vegetable content in their diet. Etymology: The genus name Delturus: Delta, fourth letter of Greek alphabet; oura, tail, referring to tail, flat above, trenchant below, -shaped in cross section. The specific name carinotus: keeled, referring to five azygous plates between dorsal and adipose fins, which rise to form a keel. Remarks: Delturus carinotus occurs in the Doce River basin, in the state of Minas Gerais. It is widely distributed, frequent and abundant. As no significant threats were identified that put its population at risk, Delturus carinotus was categorised as Least Concern (LC), (IUCN 2018).
