Relevant Information:

This is a large spotted species which was thought to be L224 but proved to be a different species. Formally given the L and LDA numbers of L233 and LDA009 before the description in 2022 by Zawadzki & da Silva. This species has in the past been confused with H. hermanni. Aquarium Care: As with most of this genus, will do well in a larger aquarium of 6ft (180cm) or over which is well filtered. Water parameters can be quite diverse for this genera. As this genus in the main are messy eaters, good water quality and filtration would need to be adhered to. Diet: Omnivore with a liking for green, tablet and frozen foods. Etymology: fuscus, dark, swarthy or dusky; maculatus, spotted, referring to large and widely spaced black blotches on living specimens; in preserved specimens, the blotches usually fade to brown but stay evident for a long time under proper fixation and storage.
