Relevant Information:

Habitat: Chiloglanis congicus is known from Pool Malebo (Stanley Pool) and the Wagenia falls (Stanley Falls). Additional recent records from the Lower Congo have been confirmed. It is a benthopelagic species, adapted to rapids. Colouration: Grey/brown with lighter and indistinctly defined spots, above all in front of and behind the adipose fin. The lower head and belly are whitish. The caudal fin exibits a vertical dark grey stripe (Seegers, L., 2008). Aquarium Care: Good oxygenated water from a power filter. Sand or gravel substrate with smooth rocks or pebbles. Their dorsal and pectoral fins are sharp and can cause wounds if not handled carefully. Reproduction: It is oviparous has a distinct pairing during breeding (Breder and Rosen 1966). Diet: Mouth and dentition suggest that it is a bottom feeder and algal grazer. In the aquarium feed algae, fly larvae foods, bloodworm, and flake food. Etymology: congicus - from the Congo. Remarks: The species is widespread or without major threats throughout the Central Africa assessment region and is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2010. Needs updating).
