Relevant Information:

Habitat: Recorded from the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang and tributary), the Pearl River (Bei Jiang), and the Min Jiang (Fujian Province) in southeastern China. Reproduction: Found in rivers, moves within the river to spawning grounds. Spawns from April to June in torrents (rapids) in sand and gravel and lays sticky eggs. Diet: Carnivorous and hunts at night. Remarks: The species is impacted by overfishing and other threats, but at present it is assessed as Least Concern as the decline is not thought to be close to qualifying for a threatened category. However, the population should be monitored and the species reassessed if known threats have a greater impact than currently understood (Allen, D.J., Zhao, H.H., Cui, K. & Zhou, W.) (IUCN 2011).
