This bagrid species has been noted as peaceful and schools with con specifics in its natural habitat. Certainly would grow too large for the average aquarium. Its fin rays are reported to cause injuries if the skin is punctured. Reproduction: Spawns amongst terrestrial plant roots that extend into the water. Etymology: The genus name of Tachysurus: tachys, swift; oura, tail, referring to the presumed agility of T. sinensis based on its “long and nimble” tail (translation). The specific name of ussuriensis: named from the Ussuri River on the Russian and Chinese border. Remarks: Still found in some online sources as Pelteobagrus ussuriensis but Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes has Tachysurus as the current genus name with Pelteobagrus ussuriensis as a junior synonym.
