Relevant Information:

Lineage: Placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 which comprises the "intermediate long-snouts" with deeper bodies. It also includes Brochis in sub-clade 1 which was synonymised with Corydoras by Britto in 2003 but in time there will be a revision which will resurrect Brochis (Cope, 1871) to full genera again. As of the latest update Corydoras deweyeri has now been placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 and has the new genus name of Brochis (Dias et al 2024). Aquarium Care: This is akin to most of this genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed with small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes. Diet: A good quality flake food and tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen or live food will keep your Corydoras in good health. Etymology: The specific name deweyeri: in honour of Marcel Van de Weyer, owner and founder of Aquaria-Antwerp, an aquarium-fish importer and retailer, who provided holotype. Remarks: In the paper by Nijssen & Isbrücker 1967, "Notes on the Guiana species of Corydoras Lacépède, 1803, with Description of seven new species and designation of a neotype for Corydoras punctatus (Bloch, 1794) - (Pisces, Cypriniformes, Callichthyidae)", they listed Corydoras griseus deweyeri from British Guiana. the discussion was — having seen the types of C. g. deweyeri, we are of the opinion that this 'subspecies' is identical with C. griseus Holly, 1940, s. str. We found that some different characters recorded by Meinken, e.g. the number of dorsal and ventral rays, the body depth and the interorbital width, agree with the meristic data mentioned by Holly for C. g. griseus. After our experiences in measuring Corydoras specimens, we believe that the differences given (Holly, 1958 or 1959: 1124-1125), will fall within the range of variation, when more specimens become available. Note: Corydoras griseus (Hoplisoma griseum) is a lineage 9 species and in an article by Steven Grant in the Catfish Study Group Journal of September 2021 Vol. 22, Issue 3 he states that C. (Brochis) deweyeri is a valid lineage 8 species. Still found on some online sources as Corydoras deweyeri.
