Habitat: Found
in large rivers throughout the Congo system and prefers
a rocky substrate or places where trees have fallen
in the water. Diet: The diet of this
species is insect larvae when young to a predator
on fish when growing into adulthood. Etymology:
The specific name macropterus: big-finned,
from makrós (Gr.), long or large, and pterón
(Gr.) or ptéryx (pt), fin referring to its
elevated dorsal fin.

Chrysichthys
macropterus is known from the type localities Kisangani,
the Tsuopo and Aruwimi Rivers. There has not been sampled
a lot in the area. The group is being revised in the
future, (needs updating IUCN 2010).
