Relevant Information:

Habitat: This species is found from the Atabapo River to the Caura River. It is distributed both in western Andean and Guiana shield tributaries. The type locality is laguna Punta Vista, edge of río Caroní, estado Bolívar, Venezuela (Fernández-Yepez 1968). Aquarium Care: No problem in a normal community tank as long as you can give them plenty of hiding places to make them feel more secure. Diet: It feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates. In the aquarium, good quality flake food, frozen blood worms and tablet food. Live worms such as whiteworm and cut up garden worms. Etymology: The specific name gonzalezi: In honour of civil engineer Marcelo González Molina (1923-2000), who provided access to the type locality. Remarks: This species is assessed as Least Concern based on its widespread distribution and suspected stable population (IUCN 2022).
