Relevant Information:

The eyes on this species are very high on the head. This is the only species in this genus but they may be a few undrscribed species to be described in the future. Aquarium Care: Peaceful species which can be kept with smaller fish in the aquarium. Diet: Sinking catfish pellets, good quality flake foods, granular foods, cultured whiteworm, earthworms, aquatic snails which they relish and frozen foods such as bloodworm. Etymology: The specific name asterifrons: asterias, starry; frons, brow, allusion not explained, presumably referring to raised superciliary margin, creating elevated (e.g., stargazing) eyes. Remarks: Despite the little information available on this species, it has a wide range and no apparent threats. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2023).
