Aquarium Care:
Good aquarium habitants for a large tank and you can
also house more than one species. They like water
movement in the aquarium. Lower tempertures for this
species is recommended. Diet: Mainly
a vegetarian diet but can also be fed tablet foods
and frozen and live foods such as mosquito larvae,
brine shrimp and shrimps. Etymology:
The specific name punctulatus: Diminutive
of punctum (L.), spot, i.e., having tiny spots, referring
to small dark spots on dorsal and lateral plates.
Remarks:
Hemiancistrus is also known in some literature
as Ancistomus but is also similar to the
Peckoltia genera but has a longer body and
a naked ventral region.

Hemiancistrus
punctulatus is endemic to Brazil, occurring in
the Patos Lagoon system in Rio Grande do Sul. The species
is widely distributed, frequent, and abundant. As no
significant threats to its population have been detected,
Hemiancistrus punctulatus has been categorised
as Least Concern
(LC), (IUCN 2022).
