Aquarium Care:
As with most of this genus, will do well in a larger
aquarium of 5ft (152.4cm) or over which is well filtered.
Water parameters can be quite diverse for this genera.
As this genus in the main are messy eaters, good water
quality and filtration would need to be adhered to.
Diet: Omnivore with a liking for
green, tablet and frozen foods. Etymology:
The specific name tietensis: –ensis,
Latin suffix denoting place: Rio Tietê, São
Paulo, Brazil, type locality (also endemic to the
Rio Tietê basin).

Hypostomus
tietensis has a geographic distribution in the
Tietê River basin, but the exact type locality
in the Tietê River is unknown. Despite the large
number of identified lots, there are doubts regarding
the identification and validity of the species. Therefore,
it has been listed as Data
Deficient (DD). Taxonomic revision of
the species is recommended (IUCN 2022).
