Relevant Information:

Description: Robust and deep body with the head being deep and short. The dorsal fin is not very large and the short adipose fin sits relatively far back. The caudal fin is deeply forked (Seegers, L., 2008). Habitat: Inhabits small fast streams. Colouration: Body medium brown with a transverse band at the posterior end of the adipose fin. Another, in front of the adipose fin which fragments into individual spots with increasing age. Reproduction: Oviparous. Distinct pairing during breeding. Aquarium Care: This species has not been exported very often in the trade but you can keep as Chiloglanis but in larger tanks with good oxygenated water from a power filter. Sand or gravel substrate with smooth rocks or pebbles. They can be quite quarrelsome so look out for any conflicts in the aquarium (Seegers, L., 2008). Diet: Algae, cucumber, fly larvae foods, bloodworm and flake food. Etymology: The genus name of Atopochilus means - atopos, strange; cheilos, lip, referring to unusual oral morphology (thick lips that form a large sucking disc). The specific epithet of vogti is in honour of monsignor Franz Xaver Vogt (1870-1943), German Catholic Missionary, Bagamoyo, German East Africa (now Tanzania), who sent type to the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (Paris).
