Relevant Information:

Description: Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6; Anal soft rays: 9 - 12; Vertebrae: 29 - 30. Large mouth gape (mouth width 21.5-27.1% SL) and squarish instead of conical head shape in large specimens. Shorter dorsal-fin spine (10.2-13.4% SL, vs. 13.4-21.0 in M. cottoides, 12.7-17.8 in M. parahybae, and 10.2-17.5 in M. cibelae) and larger predorsal length (40.4-45.7% SL, versus 35.1-42.0 in M. cottoides, 33.8-41.0 in M. parahybae, and 33.1-38.6 in M. cibelae) also distinguish this species. Aquarium Care: Small to medium sized pims, are a good addition to the medium sized community tank, and will not harm the occupants unless they are small enough to fit into its mouth such as newly born fry and young fish. If you keep livebearers such as Guppies and Platies in with them you will very rarely be overrun with fry as the Bumblebee Catfish will promptly finish them off on its night time prowls. Hiding places such as rockwork, plants and or wood will benefit this species and help, along with regular water changes, to keep this "Bumblebee Catfish" happy in its surroundings. Diet: Can be fed a varied diet of tablet food, pellets, worm foods and frozen food such as bloodworm. Etymology. eury, wide; stoma, mouth, referring to the wide mouth of adults compared to congeners. Remarks: Very rare in imports and as far as I know have not yet been seen in the hobby. A preserved specimen which was as very alike was documented as Microglanis aff. eurystoma. Despite the limited information available on this species, it is assessed as Least Concern due to its wide range (IUCN 2022).
