Depending on what literature you access you can find this species as a synonym of Trichomycterus alternatus (Eigenmann, 1917). On Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes this species is reported as being valid. Habitat: Trichomycterus travassosi occurs in the Rio das Pedras drainage, Paraíba do Sul basin, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil (Costa et al. 2022). Diet: Will feed on most aquarium fare such as tablet, frozen and live foods. It is an opportunistic predator that mainly feeds on insects, but also will take small crustaceans and plant material (algae and remains of phanerogams).
