Relevant Information:

Habitat: Trichomycterus mirissumba is endemic to the middle portion of the Paraíba do Sul River basin, in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. The species is not very abundant and infrequent, found within the limits of the Serra da Mantiqueira APA. Etymology: The specific name mirissumba: Local name for this catfish in the village of Maromba (Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), probably derived from the Tupí-Guaraní, its meaning unknown (tadpoles). Remarks: No significant threats were identified, therefore, the taxon was categorised as Least Concern (LC), (IUCN 2018).

South America: Preto River, Paraíba do Sul River basin (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Type Locality: Visconde de Mauá, 1 km à l’est de la ville de Maromba, rio Preto, près du confluent avec le ruisseau Santa Clara, bassin du rio Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
